Michigan Basketball Futures: Will Wolverines Make NCAA Tournament After Miracle Win?

The Michigan Wolverines looked dead in the water against the rival Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday afternoon. They squandered a nine-point halftime three and trailed by three in the waning moments. But then star forward Hunter Dickinson sent the game into overtime with a miracle 3-point heave, and they would take care of business in the extra time. The Michigan NCAA Tournament odds & futures saw an immediate spike following the electric win in Ann Arbor.

Michigan Basketball Futures & Spike After Miracle Win

Per DraftKings Sportsbook, the Wolverines are still a long shot (+2000) to win the March Madness tournament or make the Final Four (+4000). But the good news for Michigan fans is that they are now listed among NCAA Tournament teams in the latest betting odds for March. They were on ESPN’s list of the “first four out” before pulling out the win over Wisconsin. The Badgers had been listed as the first four in, and will likely still control their own destiny even after a gutting road loss.

The Wolverines came into Sunday after defeating Rutgers on the road on Thursday night. Head coach Juwan Howard said then that he has seen immense growth in how his team has been able to come away with close games.

“The growth started within them, coming together and finding solutions. Yes, as the lead guy, the head coach — yeah, we work on it at practice. We talking about it at film. But it never works unless you have a group that trusts, you have a group that leads and they understand exactly that, ‘Hey, what the beginning was was a long learning process.’ We have a long season. We are gonna get games that we’re supposed to win. Just trust, ” Howard said, per 247 Sports.

Michigan once again found a way to pull through in a tight battle Sunday. And although it took a miracle heave from Dickinson, the Wolverines now look like a team that could very well sneak into the NCAA Tournament. If you remember, Michigan had a similar situation before last year’s March Madness Tournament. After squeaking in as an #11 seed, Michigan would end up making a run to the Sweet Sixteen before losing to Villanova.

They are showing in recent games that this team could be equally or more dangerous than last year’s squad if they can find a way into The Big Dance in March. Michigan finishes its season on the road against  Illinois and Indiana before the Big Ten Tournament begins in a little over a week.
