NIT Odds | Utah Valley-UAB Odds
This year is the second time in Utah Valley’s history that they’ve made the NIT. That is actually quite the feat considering that the school had a Division I basketball program for ten seasons. The last time they were in the NIT was the first year, when Utah Valley joined the Western Athletic Conference in 2013. They lost in the first round that time, but are making every game count this year in their path to the NIT’s final four.
The Wolverines made the postseason CBI Invitational three times, all in a tow from 2016-2019. However, this year’s NIT appearance is the school’s first since then. They have defeated three teams with long postseason records to get to this point. On their path the NIT final four the Wolverines beat University of New Mexico in Round One, the University of Colorado in Round Two and the Cincinnati Bearcats in Round Three.
They now take on a UAB squad with much more postseason experience. The Blazers reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago under head coach Andy Kennedy. He has now led them on a strong run through the NIT. The Blazers took care of business against their SEC opponent last week, shutting the door on the Vanderbilt Commodores in the second half. They came out with a 67-59 victory.
Both teams will want to cease the opportunity to play on this stage. For the Wolverines, the game could be especially important with their Head Coach, Mark Madsen receiving a head coaching offer from the University of California. Regardless if Madsen accepts the offer, he will still coach the game on Tuesday night. However, his potential to leave the school could put more pressure on them to perform while they have him on the sidelines.
