CFB Week 12 Parlay: Tennessee-Georgia, Utah-Arizona & More (November 18)

Deep into the college football season and there is still plenty of room for movement atop the rankings. This week’s parlay focuses on the top-ranked team in the country struggling to cover a spread, a nearly forgotten team in Florida and a Pac-12 battle before the entire conference dissolves. As the season progresses, there is less room for error, especially for undefeated Georgia. Do the Bulldogs finally feel the pressure, and is this the week Florida finally comes through? Let’s hit the CFB Week 12 parlay for answers!

CFB Week 12 Parlay Pick: Utah-Arizona

A defensive struggle awaits both ranked teams in the top conference in the country. Both the Utes and Wildcats come heavy on defense, with both giving up less than 21 points per game. Arizona may try to push Utah’s defense by throwing the football, but it’s business as usual for Utah on the ground. So much is at stake here, with the Wildcats still alive to actually win the Pac 12 — 5-2 this year in conference play. Arizona has routinely struggled in this schedule spot, so don’t be shocked when Utah rolls in taking full advantage. The Utes have owned this series as of late, winning the last six and covering five of those games. Entering this weekend, they are anywhere from a pick to short road dog.

What’s also interesting is how much the lookahead line dipped from the summer, down from -8 to +1. The Wildcats shifted public perception by their fun run this season but ultimately aren’t good enough to compete with the Utes running game. Utah will stop Arizona in the air, and Arizona can’t stop Utah on the ground.

CFB Parlay Pick: Utah +1

CFB Week 12 Parlay Pick: Florida-Missouri

The Gators have not been kind to this column, my plays in the OddsShopper discord or any public play on social media. Time and time again people have fallen for the Florida trap, only to line right back up at the window to bet them again. Don’t jump ship quite yet, as this isn’t a fade on Florida, rather an actual chance for redemption. It’s been a tough spot for the Gators, who dropped three straight after a promising start. Meanwhile, the Tigers are poised for a New Year’s Day celebration in a major bowl game. To say Florida can play spoiler here is an understatement. Florida’s key win came over Tennessee this year, the same team Missouri that was just obliterated at home, but enough of what Florida did well that can carry over.

It’s hard to ignore the ire caused by Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz, as he poured it on the Vols, so maybe there’s an extra piece of incentive for Florida to play the conference hero. There is probably not as much incentive for the Gators to ruin Missouri’s season, as Florida enters this game 9-0-1 against the spread as a conference dog of 10 points or more facing an opponent coming off a win straight up against the spread. Florida is balanced and can strike in multiple ways. Its offense won’t be the issue, which is why taking points in this game means so much. Eventually Florida’s defense will make a stop, and then another, and then finally cover the double-digit number.

CFB Parlay Pick: Florida +11.5

CFB Week 12 Parlay Pick: Tennessee-Georgia

Speaking of those poor Volunteers, they were blasted last week by Missouri and beaten earlier by a lowly Gators team, and this week gets no easier. Georgia is healthier and a scary threat to walk through the postseason en route to another national championship. Despite its record, Tennessee has only been outgained in one of its games so far, which bodes well for any heavyweight clash against the top-ranked Bulldogs. Georgia’s defense is no joke, giving up 15 points per game and getting to opposing quarterbacks with ease. The Vols get a decent cushion at home with 10 points, and they may need each one of them before the final whistle. Tennessee enters this week covering its last eight spreads at home, its last seven coming off a conference road game and 6-0 against the spread off a loss. This is a trifecta or circumstances that will help Tennessee with even the slightest edges against Georgia.

The top-ranked Bulldogs already struggled to cover in a similar spot earlier this year, failing to cover the number in a road win at Auburn. The defending national champions are 0-6 against the spread versus teams .700 or greater coming off a loss. There’s a combination of internal bounce back expected inside the Vols locker room, along with taking on the team with the largest bullseye in Georgia. Take all of these points; you may need them.
