Oklahoma-Texas Upset Pick
Last year saw Oklahoma blown off the map, dropping this game 49-0 to the Longhorns. Things have certainly changed for the better with the Sooners as they are firing this year. The Longhorns are far from any slouch, but that was expected heading into this season, and this game.
The big battles up front are just part of what helps a Sooners squad. As always, though, focus remains on the QB position. Dillon Gabriel has been fantastic behind center for OU, leading them to a Big-12 best 47.4 points per game. Their defense is far from lagging, giving up the fewest amount of points per contest across the entire conference. This is exactly the type of offense and defense needed to compete and ultimately beat Texas.
This game carries far more weight than just bragging rights between rivals. The winner of this game stands an inside track of making the college football playoffs, representing the Big-12 in the process. The pressure here is squarely on the shoulders of Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian and his QB Quinn Ewers.
The Longhorns destroyed Kansas, putting up over 600 total yards in the process. KU is certainly improved but how much was that a test against Oklahoma is yet to be determined. The Sooners are undefeated, put up 50 in three games, but seemingly have zero pressure on their backs come Saturday.
It’s Sark who is leading a team ranked 5th in the country, far closer to achieving status inside the realm of the playoffs. It’s Ewers who is continuing his push for the Heisman – despite Caleb Williams domination. The Longhorns didn’t lose 49-0 last year and aren’t filled to the brink with revenge-rage. It’s a lot to take in for just a third-year coach at Texas with so much riding on this one game. Granted Brent Venebles is just in his second year at the helm, the transformation is tangible for the Sooners. In a battle of high-powered offenses, the Sooners will edge out the Longhorns, and do it on defense!
