Oklahoma cashed a ticket north of 2-1 for us last week, and we won’t need to move too far to find this week’s dog. The Oklahoma State Cowboys improved to 3-2 by knocking off Kansas State last week, and they will need an even better performance on defense this week against the Jayhawks. UCF barely showed up against Kansas, so expect the Jayhawks to look a little rusty or at best have a slower start. Running back Devin Neal ran all over UCF last week but faces a tougher defense on Oklahoma State’s side.
Oklahoma State will look to pound the ball with running back Ollie Gordon, as he has been the key to the Cowboys’ success on offense. Although the Cowboys have struggled against efficient passing games on defense, they have excelled against opposing running games, which should help them limit Kansas. Two great running backs should dictate the tempo and scoring of this football game.

The matchup favors Oklahoma State. They have the better run defense and are better equipped to play a more methodical, lower-scoring football game. Kansas will still look to make some aggressive throws, so where Oklahoma State can truly impact this game and clinch the victory is through turnovers. Takeaways have been lacking for the Cowboys, but they broke out with three picks last week, scoring 10 points off those mistakes. If they get even one interception, this game can change for the better. If the Cowboys get two or more picks, consider the door slammed shut on Kansas.
A lot of pressure building up is for the Jayhawks, a team that’s still new to the growing spotlight. They have a solid chance to stay with Texas and just behind Oklahoma — assuming all things remain the same. There’s also the added element of revenge. Last season’s 37-15 win over Mike Gundy was just his second loss to Kansas since he took over at Oklahoma State. The talent gap has narrowed and the turnovers are starting to come for the Boys. We love Gundy to exact some revenge now that he has the horses on defense and workhorse running back.
