Yesterday didn’t go as planned. Toledo left us hanging, and while I could sit here and blame the refs (that forward progress call was horrendous), the reality is it didn’t score in the second half. You’ve got to overcome those kinds of things. No excuses, but it’s been a strong November overall, so let’s keep it rolling.

Free CFB Expert Pick: North Carolina State-Georgia Tech Under 51.5

Alright, let’s get greasy. Anytime people see an under, they cringe, but I actually love betting them. It’s fun rooting for nothing. Tonight we’re going under 51.5 in the North Carolina State-Georgia Tech game. If you can find 52 out there, even better — I couldn’t, but shop around.

This is a middling ACC matchup, and both teams are built in a way that supports this under. North Carolina State is a .500 team with a freshman quarterback. It plays slowly — 127th in the country in seconds per play — which is exactly what we want for an under. Fewer plays mean more pressure on efficiency, and North Carolina State isn’t great in that department. It’s methodical, average offensively and below 4 yards per carry on the ground. Its defense isn’t outstanding but doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses either.

On the other side, Georgia Tech is a 9-point favorite that’s hard to figure out. It’s coming off a bye after a wild win over Miami, where it leaned heavily on the run. Quarterback Haynes King played hurt in that game, and while the extra rest might help, we don’t know if he’s fully healthy.

Against Miami, Georgia Tech ran the ball on 75% of its plays — that’s triple-option territory. For the season, it’s at 55% rushes (47th nationally), but if it sticks with a ground-heavy approach tonight, that’s great for the clock and great for this under.

Tempo-wise, this isn’t a high-paced game either. North Carolina State is near the bottom in seconds per play, and Georgia Tech is in the bottom half as well, sitting around 90th. If Georgia Tech gets a lead and chooses to grind it out on the ground, I don’t see either team lighting up the scoreboard.

This sets up perfectly for an under. It’s not a tempo game, it’s not an efficiency game — just keep it to field goals, and we’re golden.
