Large Georgia Bets Move National Championship Odds
According to BetMGM data analyst John Ewing, one bettor put a whopping $550,000 on Georgia -12.5 (-110) to win $500,000 on Monday morning. Later in the day, Caesar’s Sportsbook’s Max Meyer added that their book has taken 25 5-figure spread or moneyline bets since Sunday, with 23 of them being on the heavily-favored Bulldogs. The book took a $220K wager on Georgia -13.
With heavy late money coming in on Georgia, the line has moved. Per BetMGM, Georgia is now a 13.5-point favorite over Georgia after being listed at 12.5 on Monday morning. But don’t think that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is going to let his team overlook a TCU squad that has shown an ability to come away victorious in tight games all season long.
Per Dawgs247’s Jordan D. Hill, Smart called his upcoming opponent a “tremendous team.”
“Their kids believe. They have a lot of similarities to our kids in terms of the culture created there, the way they play, the way they believe,” he said.
Georgia has all the experience necessary to not let the big stage affect them too much. 25-year-old quarterback Stetson Bennett was under center when the Bulldogs were able to defeat Alabama in the National Championship last season. He completed 17 of 26 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns in the 33-18 win over the Crimson Tide.
“You think about the things he and I have been through, decisions made,” Smart said when asked about Bennett’s legacy. “I mean, from the recruitment process to his official visit to what will happen Monday night. I mean, where to begin? … And I’m just appreciative of the way he’s handled everything and really what he stands for.”
For Stetson Bennett, Monday night could provide the perfect opportunity for a storybook sendoff as he makes his case as the most accomplished Georgia quarterback of all time. And for all the sharps who threw heavy Georgia bets on Monday, they’ll certainly hope so.
