Northern Illinois-Central Michigan Weather Report

Early reports about possible inclement weather may have inefficiently affected the odds for Tuesday’s game between the Northern Illinois Huskies and the Central Michigan Chippewas. Although there are snow showers in the forecast for Mount Pleasant, Mich., today, they are expected to conclude before 8 p.m., per the National Weather Service, with the chance of precipitation staying below 50% for most of the evening, per the Weather Channel. Approximately 0.11 inches of snow are anticipated after kickoff.

While soggy conditions and near-freezing temperatures are never fun, they’re also a way of life in the Mid-American Conference. If anything, the fact the temperatures are expected to be just near freezing is a good thing. Both teams are used to playing in situations like these, and while they can still depress scoring, the weather doesn’t look nearly bad enough for that to happen tonight.

Northern Illinois-Central Michigan Pick & Prediction

With the market likely too worried about the weather, the total for tonight’s Northern Illinois-Central Michigan game is a bit too low. Most advanced models favor the over. Parker Fleming’s model, which uses expected points added (EPA) per play, has this one projected for exactly 48 points. The Fremeau Efficiency Index (FEI) pegs this one for 53.1 points, both of which exceed the 45.5 you can buy at BetMGM for only -105. Pinnacle, a sharp book, has this exact wager priced at -115, so we’re getting an edge on the market, too.

But enough with the math and weather — do these teams have the players necessary to score at least 46 points? The Huskies are averaging 26.1 points per game this year, but that jumps to 32.8 when looking at only MAC play. The Chippewas are only scoring 18.7 points per game and 18.3 in MAC play, but they’re at least averaging 21.5 points per game when playing MAC teams at home. These teams are a combined 8-8 to the over this year.

Ultimately, I’ve seen enough from the Huskies to trust them to lead the way on offense. Veteran quarterback Rocky Lombardi is no stranger to cold weather and hostile MAC environments. He owns an average passing efficiency grade of 135.1 in October and 138 against MAC opponents. Chippewas quarterback Jase Bauer only owns a 110.3 against MAC teams but has a 124.4 in home games and adds plenty of production with his legs. He has racked up 382 rushing yards and four scores on 84 rushing attempts against MAC competition since last year, including a 109-yard, two-score showing against NIU.

Northern Illinois-Central Michigan Week 10 Pick: Over 45.5 -105 at BetMGM
