We split our two college football Underdog plays this past week, unable to complete the three-peat of 3x winners. The new streak starts on Friday as we target the two ranked teams in action. With four games overall on the Friday night slate, UNLV and Oregon play host, are both are looking to improve to 5-0 this year. Let’s look at the top play from each game for our top Underdog Fantasy CFB pick’em predictions. As always, we keep an eye on OddsShopper’s Underdog Optimizer to identify any market edge.

Ricky White H/L Than 78.5 Receiving Yards

UNLV hosts a 3-1 Syracuse team with the Rebels 6.5-point home favorites. It’s the highest total on the board at 58.5 (not saying a ton with the other three games), and UNLV should be looking to throw. Ricky White’s 78.5 projection has been as hit or miss as it gets this year. In four games, White either destroyed this number or vanished. He hit 100-plus receiving yards against Fresno and Utah State and failed to reach 12 yards against either Kansas or Houston. This is a volume game for White, who had five-plus grabs in both games where he exploded.

Stokastic’s CFB DFS projections see a bigger game from White than those two clunkers — something much closer to the monster games, as he’s projected to finish with 83.82 receiving yards. That alone isn’t enough width to blindly jump on this play, but there’s another projection that should help justify going higher than 78.5.

After dealing with a new quarterback last game, White is now projected for over five receptions on more than seven targets, meaning he’s going to be involved. Hajj-Malik Williams looked in sync with White, and that should continue against Syracuse.

Matthew Sluka’s departure aside, there should be far less drama free on the field.

Underdog Fantasy Pick’em Prediction: Ricky White Higher Than 78.5 Receiving Yards

Jordan James H/L Than 91.5 Rushing Yards

Oregon is laying 23.5 against 3-2 Michigan State, and the total sits at or around 52. That means if the Spartans are going to hang in this one, they either need to survive a shootout or shut down the Ducks on offense. The first area of attack for Michigan State would be pressuring quarterback Dillion Gabriel, hoping to force a turnover or at least a quick end to early possessions.

We look to tail a big game on the ground for Jordan James, as the Ducks would be served best to spoon feed him the ball against the Spartans. The record may not indicate, but Michigan State is a top-45 team in both overall pass and rush defense. James is poised to attack this Spartans defense, wearing it down with a good number of carries. He comes off a season-high 20 carries last week, and Stokastic’s CFB DFS projections see just under 18 more on Friday. James is also projected to top 103 rushing yards, making this a strong play on that gap alone.

The key to his success has been volume, as James’ two best rushing performances have correlated with the most carries. We expect that trend to continue.
