Djokovic is as low as -150 on FanDuel to win the tournament, but can be had at +105 at PointsBet. Before Alcaraz withdrew, he was +300 at BetMGM, with Djokovic the favorite at +160.

Daniil Medvedev is now the consensus second choice, ranging from +450 at BetRivers to +550 at FanDuel.

The Australian Open begins Jan. 16, with the draw on Thursday. Defending men’s champion Rafael Nadal, ranked No. 2 in the world, will be the No. 1 seed. His odds range from +1000 at PointsBet to +1400 at FanDuel.

Djokovic, a nine-time Australian champ, did not play in the 2022 tournament after he was deported from Australia because he was not vaccinated for COVID-19. Djokovic, ranked No. 5, remains unvaccinated, but restrictions in the country have changed. He has 21 Grand Slam championships, one behind Rafael Nadal for most all-time.

Alcaraz said he injured the semimembranosus muscle in his right leg “through a chance, unnatural movement in training.” He won the U.S. Open in September then could not complete the season after tearing an abdominal muscle in November. The 19-year-old became the youngest player to finish No. 1 in the 50 years of computerized rankings, up from No. 32 for the largest single-year rise to No. 1 in history.
