DraftKings Supplants FanDuel in User Feedback Survey

FanDuel loves to call itself “America’s Favorite Sportsbook,” and market share reports have generally backed that up. However, a recent survey from Truist Securities showed that users are actually favoring DraftKings, and it’s not really all that close: 29% chose DraftKings as their top sportsbook, while only 22% opted for FanDuel. So the debate of DraftKings vs. FanDuel is more unclear than ever.

There 554 responses to the survey, and per Legal Sports Report, 69% were between the ages of 21 and 44. Additionally, more than half of those who responded bet on both sports and iGaming, whereas about a quarter each bet on one or the other.

Truist asked responders which they preferred between DraftKings and FanDuel, and 61% chose DraftKings. However, the distribution of reasons for choosing DraftKings over FanDuel were virtually identical between the two operators:

  • Better odds: 35% of those who choose DraftKings, 41% of those who chose FanDuel
  • Easier deposits and withdrawals: 34% DraftKings, 36% FanDuel

This may indicate that some of this is merely brand loyalty, but nevertheless, DraftKings was the clear frontrunner in this survey.

Another interesting result of the survey was the feedback for one of the newest sportsbooks in the industry, ESPN BET. ESPN, obviously, is the go-to app for checking scores of games and such, but at the moment the only blending of ESPN and ESPN BET is with listed lines. A whopping 64% of responders said they would be interested in seeing ESPN incorporate more betting content.

Additionally, responders were asked if they would switch to ESPN BET as their primary platform if ESPN integrated sports betting content more effectively. Only 3% said no, while 97% said they would either consider it or they would be likely to switch. So basically, ESPN could be a few product changes away from really making moves in the sports betting space.
