Jalen Hurts looks likely to return for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday against the New York Giants, when a win would wrap up the No. 1 seed for Philadelphia. The Eagles provided the latest Jalen Hurts injury update on Friday, saying the quarterback is “trending in the right direction.”

“If he’s ready to play, we’ll play him,” Philadelphia coach Nick Sirianni told the Eagles website. “He’s done a little bit more this week. I thought he threw the ball well last week, but you’re talking about the healing that’s going on. There are things that you can’t see. It’s things that are going on in there. It’s healed one week further out from when it happened.”
Hurts was a limited participant in practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday. The Eagles have remained 14-point favorites against the Giants all week, with New York (9-6-1) locked into the No. 6 NFC playoff seed regardless of the result Sunday.
The Giants have not revealed if they will play their regular lineup or hold out some players.
“We’ll talk about it Friday night and make our decisions and have a great week of practice,” New York coach Brian Daboll told the Giants website. “I’d say we’re going to do what’s best for our team.”
Hurts, among the NFL MVP favorites (+1500, DraftKings), sprained his right throwing shoulder against the Chicago Bears in NFL Week 15 but finished that game. He has not played since.
With a chance to clinch the No. 1 seed with a win the next two weeks, the Eagles lost to the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints with Gardner Minshew at quarterback. If Philadelphia (13-3) loses this week, and the Cowboys defeat the Washington Commanders, Dallas (12-4) would win the NFC East and Philadelphia would fall to the No. 5 seed as the top NFC wild card.
Both Eagles-Giants and Cowboys-Commanders kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET.

Eagles running back Miles Sanders (knee) was removed from the injury report, and Sirianni said the Eagles are hopeful safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson (spleen) is able to return.
“The last two weeks haven’t gone the way we wanted them to go, but we’re resilient and we have that dawg mentality and we’re going to bounce back,” Philadelphia tight end Dallas Goedert told the Eagles website this week. “We’re sitting here in Week 18 playing for the division title, the conference No. 1 seed, and we want to play our kind of football.”
