Jeffrey Springs Injury Causes Brutal Beat For Many MLB Bettors

The Tampa Bay Rays have hit their biggest roadblock of the season thus far. Starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs was forced out of the game against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday afternoon with a hand injury. Springs has evolved into one of the better strikeout pitchers in the game, and bettors have taken notice. The Jeffrey Springs injury caused many bettors out there to suffer from a brutal beat.

Jeffrey Springs Injury Causes Brutal MLB Bad Beat

The Springs strikeout prop was set at o/u 6.5 prior to the matchup against the Red Sox. Per Pikkit, bettors were all over the line, with 3,338 total bets coming in on Springs.

He was at five strikeouts and had an 0-2 count on Red Sox third baseman Justin Turner in the fourth inning when he looked down at his pitching hand and called for the trainer. Springs was immediately removed from the game.

The injury caused the over 6.5 strikeouts bettors to lose out on what was certainly looking like another performance where he was going to sour over the total. But the timing hurt even more for the bettors who had a 6+ strikeouts bet placed, and just needed one more strike.

The Jeffrey Springs injury comes at a terrible time for the left-hander and undefeated Rays. Springs was off to a dominant start to his 2023 campaign, going 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA over his first three starts with 24 strikeouts. The Rays called the injury a “left arm ulnar neuritis” and said he will be re-evaluated on Friday.

The 30-year-old has had a career revival thanks to the Rays’ pitch lab, with a lot of the success coming from his nasty slider. The Southpaw admitted he never thought he could throw a successful slider in the big leagues until the Rays coaching staff unlocked the pitch for him.

“Honestly, not until I came over here,” Springs told theScore late this spring when asked when he realized he could throw the slide piece. “Not until I came over here and got the feedback and got to sit down with him.”

Now, Springs finds himself as a key contributor on a true contender. But the injury on Thursday will prove to be another obstacle in his long road to stardom.

Unfortunately, the Jeffrey Springs injury also resulted in a terrible beat for all the prop bettors out there. We’ll hope to see the veteran back on the mound in the near future.
