Kendall Milton Injury Update: Is Georgia’s Running Back Playing Saturday?

Kendall Milton Injury Update

According to local sources, Kendall Milton injured his hamstring early during Georgia’s training camp. Head coach Kirby Smart has been giving reps out to the reserves as the Bulldogs look to head into the season prepared at the position. However, Smart has also begun to give Milton more work lately — he shed his non-contact jersey this week, which is a positive sign for his availability.

Smart shared some encouraging news about Milton ahead of Week 1. “Kendall, he’s been dealing with a hamstring most of, almost all of camp. He feels 80, 90 percent,” Smart told reporters, “We’re hopeful to get him back today as well in terms of practicing and taking reps.” While Milton’s return to full participation is a good sign, it’s no guarantee that he’ll seed the field much — if at all — in Week 1.

Is Kendall Milton Playing for Georgia in Week 1?

The Bulldogs may have to make do with a limited rotation at running back for their Week 1 matchup against FCS UT Martin. Milton is trending in the right direction, of course, but hamstring injuries are easily aggravated, and it’s not like the Bulldogs will need all of their best players to take down an FCS program.

Still, Milton’s absence would complicate things for a Georgia offense that already lost last year’s leading rusher, Kenny McIntosh, along with last year’s quarterback, Stetson Bennett. The lack of offensive continuity could hurt Georgia early in the year, and while it’s unlikely to affect the Bulldogs much against lowly UT Martin, their first SEC game is just two weeks away.

It remains unclear whether Milton will see the field in Week 1. If Kirby Smart takes a cautious approach, he’ll likely limit Milton to a possession or two — or hold him out entirely — in what’s functionally a preseason game for the Bulldogs, especially since Georgia is already hurting at running back. Milton’s hamstring injury will be a story to follow as the Bulldogs begin to play FBS-level competition starting next week.
