Houston area furniture mogul, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale has made quite a name for himself in the sports betting community, using insanely large wagers on Texas teams to create promos for his store. He placed a hefty $2 million on the Dallas Cowboys to pull off the upset win over the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs on Sunday night.
The Cowboys fell flat against a stout 49ers defense, losing 19-12. Mattress Mack shrugged off the loss after the game, but also had some comments for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott following his poor performance.
“Hey Dak, Mattress Mack here,” McIngvale said, per NBC Sports. “I just lost $2 million, but I’ve got some advice for you. Get rid of that Sleep Number mattress and get a Tempur-Pedic. You’ll get much better results!”

Mattress Mack on a Rough Stretch Following Cowboys ML Bet
Dak Prescott let down many bettors other than Mattress Mack. The Cowboys quarterback followed up a lights-out performance in the Wild Card Round by completing 23 of his 37 pass attempts for 206 yards and a touchdown. But it was two interceptions that continued a troubling trend from Prescott during the regular season, where he tied the NFL lead with 15 picks.
“If I had the answers, then we would’ve won tonight. Too early. Too soon,” Prescott said after the game, per ESPN. “And I promise you we will, though. In my time playing on this team, for this organization, we will. Yeah, it sucks that it’s 365 days away to get back to this position, but we’ve got to take it day by day, step by step, and that’s what I’ll do. I know that’s who I am. I’ll respond the right way. As I said, when we get this team aligned, the guys that we get back, coaches, we’ll do what’s necessary to be right back here and win the next time.”
The Cowboys moneyline loss marked the second time this month Mattress Mack took a large betting loss in a big game. McIngvale had over $3 million on TCU to upset Georgia in the College Football National Championship before the Horned Frogs got blown out in the big game.
Not to fret, though, ‘Mattress Mack’ is already fast at work carving out his next big wager. He already has over $1.5 million on the Houston Cougars — who currently hold the No. 1 ranking — winning the March Madness tournament. And any time a Texas sports team plays in a big game, you can expect McIngvale to have an insane amount of money riding. Per DraftKings Sportsbook, the Cougars are the betting favorite (+600) to win the championship.
He won $75 million when the Houston Astros won the 2022 World Series.
