Mickelson’s top 5 finish had some crazy betting impact. Entering the tournament, he was +3300 (on FanDuel Sportsbook) to finish top 5 in the tournament. He was also receiving some heavy betting attention from all the loyal fans who have stuck with him despite the move to LIV Golf.
Mickelson had received the 0.8 percent of Masters bets to win the tournament (+20000 at BetMGM) and a flurry of top 5 bets came in, as well.
The lefty called his shot earlier in the tournament when he said he felt he could post a really low score at Augusta with the way he was playing.
“I’m close to going on a tear,” Mickelson said, per GOLF. “Even though the scores haven’t shown it, I’m hitting so many good shots. Pretty soon I’m going to have a really low one. When that happens and it clicks, then the game feels easy again. Then I stop putting pressure on myself, and the scores just start to fall into place.”
Well, Mickelson certainly went on a tear on Sunday, posting a seven-under 65 to close out a historic day. It was the lowest Masters round ever by a player over the age of 50, and Mickelson now becomes the oldest player in the tournament’s great history to post a top 5 finish.
“Lefty” has not been in top form since joining LIV Golf, and did not have many believers that he could compete this weekend. But some players just have the magic at Augusta National, and Mickelson certainly fits that description.
