The Nashville Predators entered the final week of the NHL season as a clear underdog to miss the playoffs, but they are not done fighting just yet. The Preds were able to pull off an upset win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night, giving them a puncher’s chance to qualify for the postseason. Predators Stanley Cup Playoff Odds on the Rise
DraftKings Sportsbook had the Predators’ odds to make the playoffs at +700 before the Hurricanes game. They remain an underdog (+380) but are certainly now more positioned for a miracle run. The Preds were able to keep their season alive with a shutdown performance in a 3-0 win.
The win pushes the Predators to one point behind the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.
“We know the position we’re in, and we take our guys against anyone,” center Mark Jankowski said, per the NHL website. “We’re not backing down. We see who’s across the ice there and we’re not backing down from anyone. We believe in this group, no matter who we’re playing against.”
The Jets are the favorite to earn the final wild card spot (-150) and control their own destiny with a game in hand on both the Predators and the Flames. But after beating Carolina, Nashville now sets up a most-important matchup with the Jets on Saturday night. If they are able to come away victorious, their tilt with the Flames on Monday would take over as the most important game of their season.
In all likelihood, the Predators will need to win their next two games against teams fighting for the last spot. But after the big victory Wednesday, the updated Predators Stanley Cup Playoff odds show they now have a legitimate chance.
