PGA star Scottie Scheffler opened the weekend as the heavy favorite at the AT&T Byron Nelson and received some heavy betting attention throughout the weekend. Scheffler entered Sunday’s final round at the top of the leaderboard and took the lead early in his round. But veteran Jason Day made just enough shots down the stretch to notch the victory. The triumph for Day certainly stung for many Scottie Scheffler bettors out there who were cheering for him to continue his dominant two-year stretch. Scottie Scheffler Betting: AT&T Byron Nelson Bettors Upset With Near Win
Per BetMGM, Scheffler (+350) had both the highest percentage of bets (6.9%) placed on him to win the AT&T Byron Nelson and the most money backing him (10.4%). Day (+1800) was not listed within the top 3 in bet percentage or handle percentage but there was reason to believe this win has been a long time coming for the Australian.
Day already has four top 10 finishes on the season but has not won on the PGA Tour since 2018. At that time, Day was widely considered one of the best players in the game, winning 12 times on tour including the PGA Championship in 2015. Day admitted before Sunday’s round that the pressure of the long drought has been wearing on him
“It doesn’t get easier, but you can handle the conditions a lot easier and handle the pressure easier,” Day said, per Fox Sports.
“You can’t control what a guy is going to go out there and shoot tomorrow, but you can control your attitude and your emotions and just keep pushing along and hopefully if you give yourself somewhere around the lead on the back nine on a Sunday, you never know what happens on Sunday.”
Even if Scheffler could not come away victorious on Sunday, he still finds himself in great form ahead of next weekend’s PGA Championship. Per DraftKings, Scheffler (+750 at FanDuel Sportsbook) is tied with Jon Rahm as the favorites for the second major tournament of the year. New users at FanDuel can get $150 in bonus bets with any $5 wager on a golf tournament!
The Scottie Scheffler betting attention at the AT&T Byron Nelson shows many are wishing the outcome was different on Sunday. But there are plenty of reasons to believe he will be back to cashing in for his backers in the near future.
