Sean McVay on Friday told the Los Angeles Rams he will return as their head coach next season, passing on reportedly lucrative TV offers following his worst season as coach, one year after winning the Super Bowl. The latest Sean McVay news could affect the 2024 Super Bowl odds as the Rams will be trying to get back to the big game.
“Sean McVay informed the team he is excited to return next season,” the Rams wrote on Twitter.

McVay, who will turn 37 on Jan. 24, became the youngest coach in NFL history when he was hired (about to turn 31), the youngest to reach the Super Bowl (33), and the youngest to win the Super Bowl (36).
“The ultimate thing is you want to make … sure that this joy, this zest, this ability to be able to do the things at the level that you know you’re capable of, how do you not let the challenges and the grind and the competitor in you … how do you not let that change the dynamic of who you want to be as a leader in those types of things?” McVay said following the season, according to ESPN. “And that’s kind of where I’m at.”
After defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2022 Super Bowl, the Rams entered this season as one of the Super Bowl favorites, +1100 as the fourth choice, behind the Buffalo Bills (+600), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+750) and Kansas City Chiefs (+1000). Los Angeles also was favored to win the NFC West (+125).
But the Rams finished the season 5-12 and without injured stars Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald. Stafford and Kupp each said he would be ready to go next season. Donald openly contemplated retirement after last season and has not commented on his future.

Stafford was limited to nine games, missing time with a spinal cord contusion and in the NFL concussion protocol. The nature of those injuries led to speculation the quarterback, who turns 35 on Feb. 7, was contemplating retirement.
“No, not really,” Stafford said. “I got a family, I got kids, I got a wife that are obviously very, very important to me. So it’s conversations, but feel really confident that I’ll be good to go next year, be ready to go, and got full support from them, which is what matters for me.”
Kupp had surgery for a high ankle sprain, and the wide receiver, who will turn 30 before next season (June 15), did not play the final eight games.
“I don’t think I had any other option but to get it fixed,” Kupp said. “The great thing is that guys have done really well with this procedure and come back feeling good, so excited to be able to get to that place and back to work.”

Prior to the season, McVay signed a contract extension through 2026. He also got married, and reportedly turned down a $20 million per year offer to join Amazon’s NFL coverage.
He is 60-38 in the regular season, and 7-3 in the playoffs, in his six seasons as an NFL head coach.
Reports say his contract is worth $14 million per season, third in the NFL behind Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots ($20 million) and Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks ($15 million). Each of those men is in his 70s.
“I love this. But if I’m doing it till 60, I won’t make it,” McVay said last year, according to the Los Angeles Times.
