2023 Super Bowl MVP Odds: Brock Purdy on the Move

Brock Purdy finished the 41-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks completing 18 of 30 passes for 332 yards and three touchdowns. He added 16 yards and one touchdown on the ground. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed his confidence in Purdy following the game, adding that he's still getting more and more comfortable in the system.

“I felt that way from the beginning,” Shanahan said, per Pro Football Talk. “Once he got in that game versus Miami he didn’t have the luxury to sit there and worry about stuff the way the game was going. We just had to call plays to try to win the game, and he did such a hell of a job. He’s done it every time since. We’ve got a lot of confidence in him and he gives us more and more confidence each week.”

Purdy and the 49ers will welcome the Dallas Cowboys to Levi's Stadium on Sunday afternoon with a trip to the NFC Championship on the line. Per DraftKings, the 49ers are currently 3.5-point favorites. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen had an up-and-down performance in a 34-31 win over the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card Round. He completed 23 of 39 passes for 352 yards and three touchdowns. But two interceptions kept the Dolphins alive until late in the fourth quarter.

“I mean, the turnovers, they hurt us,” Allen told the Bills website. “Really let them back in the game. Up 17-0 with chances, and I give them the ball two times and give them a touchdown, it’s just things you can’t do. And you can’t expect to win like that, so some stuff to clean up.”

Patrick Mahomes has had the luxury of an extra week of rest thanks to the Kansas City Chiefs being awarded the No. 1 seed in the AFC. They are large 8.5-point favorites against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will also be benefit from his team receiving a bye in the NFC, which gave him some time to rest a shoulder injury that kept him out of Weeks 16 & 17 of the regular season.

“He’s better today than he was two weeks ago,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer. “He’s continuing to get better and he feels good. ... We’re looking forward to seeing him go out there and practice today and go through everything.”

“He’ll be ready to roll today,” Sirianni added. “Full go.”

Based on the updated Super Bowl MVP odds, Mahomes and Allen could add to their resume this week. But don't be surprised if Brock Purdy continues his run with a 49ers team that has no clear weaknesses.
