Patrick Mahomes is once again the betting favorite to win the 2023 NFL MVP. Jalen Hurts is the runner-up near the top of the board. But it’s Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields who could cause sportsbooks problems this season.
The 2021 first-round pick is picking up a lot of steam when looking at the latest 2023 NFL MVP odds update. After opening up at 30-1 to win the MVP Award this upcoming season, Fields has been bet down to 18-1 at BetMGM.
Can Fields really get it done for the Bears, who are coming off a 3-14 season?
Bettors this offseason think so.

Jalen Hurts +1000
Trevor Lawrence +1400
Aaron Rodgers +1400

Lamar Jackson +1600

Ten players — all quarterbacks — have shorter odds to win the 2023 NFL MVP Award than Fields, but according to data released by BetMGM, only two players have taken more bets in early trading. Hurts is the most-bet player, followed by Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
Fields is coming off a season in which he completed 60.4% of his passes for 2,241 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Of course, he added 1,143 yards on the ground and another eight rushing touchdowns.
Some of the hype is coming from national coverage of Fields. He clearly flashed big-time potential, and now he gets added targets thanks to the offseason trade for D.J. Moore. Moore comes over from the Carolina Panthers and will join a receivers room that includes Darnell Mooney, whatever is left of Chase Claypool’s potential, Cole Kmet and more.
The Bears win total sits at a modest 7.5, so believers in Fields also want to look at the regular season win total for Chicago. There are still question marks throughout the division, and the Bears have made heavy investments all offseason in the entire roster.
Fields is the biggest liability at BetMGM, Hurts has taken the most bets, but most of the money wagered so far is on Mahomes.
Other notable line movement in the 2023 NFL MVP market includes Jared Goff dropping from 40-1 to 25-1, Trey Lance seeing his odds cut in half from 50-1 to 25-1 and Aaron Rodgers to 14-1 from his opening 25-1 number.
Fields and the Bears will open the 2023 season on Sunday, Sept. 10, against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. New Packers quarterback Jordan Love is 50-1 to win the MVP.
