AJ Dillon Thanksgiving Injury Update

The Green Bay Packers have quite the injury report heading into their Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions. Running back Aaron Jones is out, tight end Luke Musgrave is on injured reserve, reserve running back Emanuel Wilson is on injured reserve, backup tight end Josiah Deguara is doubtful, depth wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks is questionable and running back AJ Dillon is questionable — and that’s just the offensive skill-position players! Yikes.

Dillon has been dealing with a groin injury this week. The ailment kept him limited in practice all week. Dillon has been one of Green Bay’s few consistently available skill-position players this year, as he has played in every game while logging a career-high 13.3 touches per game. The extra workload hasn’t been without consequence, however, and this groin injury is likely a product of the wear and tear that comes with playing a high-volume role as a running back in the NFL.

Is AJ Dillon Playing for Green Bay on Thursday?

So is AJ Dillon playing for Green Bay on Thanksgiving Thursday? His odds of playing are probably better than a coin flip, but it’s possible that he is limited. With Emanuel Wilson on injured reserve and Aaron Jones ruled out, the Packers are down to Dillon, Patrick Taylor and James Robinson. The Packers have flirted with Taylor and Robinson a lot this season, with both players often getting cut or signed to the practice squad as needed based on the availability of other running backs. But for the first time this season, both are on the active roster, which likely means the team is anticipating lengthy absences at the position.

Taylor and Robinson’s promotion to the active roster doesn’t necessarily mean that Dillon isn’t playing. The Packers needed to replace two running backs in Wilson and Jones, so it makes sense that they added two running backs. The move likely says more about Jones’ long-term availability than Dillon’s short-term availability. Still, there is a chance that the Packers are hoping the newly signed duo can spell Dillon frequently, especially on a short week.

If you’re skeptical of how many snaps Dillon will play on Thursday, consider playing his under at bet365. His rushing and receiving yardage prop total is set to 63.5 with the under priced at -115.
