Alexander Mattison Injury Update

The Minnesota Vikings have had a number of issues with injuries this year. Quarterback Kirk Cousins, wide receiver Justin Jefferson, and running back Cam Akers have all landed on injured reserve. Running back Alexander Mattison is also dealing with an injury — a concussion — and is questionable.

Mattison missed Wednesday’s practice with the injury, but he returned to practice on Thursday in a limited capacity before getting in a full session on Sunday. That progression is encouraging, and while he still must clear the concussion protocol, he wouldn’t have been allowed a full session if he weren’t trending in the right direction.

Is Alexander Mattison Playing for Minnesota on Sunday?

So is Alexander Mattison playing for Minnesota on Sunday? Probably. The Vikings have lost a ton of skill-position players to injuries this year, so anytime they list one as questionable, I suspect they’re likelier to play than not. With Mattison getting in a full session on Friday, I think he will probably clear the concussion protocol and suit up.

That said, while we saw Brock Purdy return from a concussion the next week, it isn’t common. Jaylen Waddle nearly made a return after one week but was only a limited participant in practice that Friday. With Mattison getting in a full set of reps, he could be the exception to the rule like Purdy.

With Jefferson out and Mattison questionable, the Vikings are a 3-point road underdog at bet365. Neither Mattison nor backup Ty Chandler are available on the player prop markets for rushing, but quarterback Joshua Dobbs is with a total of 30.5. Dobbs has cleared that number in seven of his 10 appearances this year, including both games with the Vikings. New to bet365?
