The San Francisco 49ers have gotten much more than expected out of Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy. The seventh-round rookie out of Iowa State has shown the poise necessary to succeed in the NFL. However, most of his wins have come against teams with unremarkable passing defenses and limited pass rushes. That will all change on Sunday afternoon.
Purdy will come under significant pressure on Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys lead the NFL in pressure percentage (25.6%) and rank tied for first in pass-rush win rate (52%). Purdy has played in eight games this year and only faced one opponent that generates pressure at a comparable rate, the Kansas City Chiefs (24.9%). He threw one interception in just nine attempts in that matchup.

Purdy threw an interception on 2.4% of his regular-season pass attempts this year. That’s not a great number — Baker Mayfield and Andy Dalton all finished the regular season at that mark. Further, Purdy’s professional performance lines up with the 2.2% interception percentage he recorded at Iowa State. With a tough matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in store, Purdy should slip up at least once.
