With Williams out of the lineup, Allen will be relied upon even more by quarterback Justin Herbert and the Chargers’ offense. Playing in just 10 games this season because of injury, Allen still managed 66 receptions for 752 yards and four touchdowns. He’s coming off an eight-reception performance against the Denver Broncos in Week 18, and has gone over 6.5 receptions in four of his last five games.
In the midst of another monster season, running back Austin Ekeler is quite possibly the very best pass-catching back in the entire league. The versatile star has a whopping 107 receptions for 722 yards and five touchdowns, replacing a LaDainian Tomlinson franchise record for most receptions by a running back in a season.
“I am not really sure how I feel about it because we have had some injuries to receivers, so it’s like, man, I wish those balls were going down the field to some of our guys,” Ekeler said to ESPN. “Also, as an individual, looking back on my career, that will be a pretty cool mark in my career.”
Austin Ekeler will once again be asked to carry the load for the Chargers’ offense. And if he and Keenan Allen are able to break through against the Jaguars on Saturday, a lot of prop bettors will be very happy.
