Breece Hall Injury Update: Is New York’s Star Playing Sunday? (Sept. 17)

The New York Jets have had an eventful start to the season, beating the Buffalo Bills but losing quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the year. The running back room now has an extra question mark, too. So is Breece Hall playing? He was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday but was a full participant on Friday. Let’s look at the most recent Breece Hall injury updates as we assess whether he will be available in Week 2.

UPDATE (9/17/23 at 11:30 a.m. ET): Breece Hall is officially active for Week 2’s Jets-Cowboys game, per the latest from the New York Jets (via FantasyPros).

Breece Hall Injury Update: Is New York’s Star Playing Sunday?

Breece Hall Injury Update

The New York Jets could be without their star running back, Breece Hall, in Week 2. Hall is still recovering from an ACL injury suffered late last season and was on a pitch count in Week 1, touching the ball only 11 times but generating an impressive 129 all-purpose yards, including an 83-yard breakaway run. Hall also fumbled once.

The Jets have been conservative with Hall to this point, and I don’t expect that strategy to change, especially with a capable backup in Dalvin Cook right behind him on the depth chart. Hall practiced fully on Friday after getting in limited sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, which bodes well for his availability on Sunday.

Per Jets beat reporter Rich Cimini, head coach Robert Saleh said that Hall will remain on a pitch count in Week 2. The 11 touches he received in Week 1 are likely about the same as he’ll get in Week 2. The questionable tag feels more like a reflection of Hall’s banged-up status than a genuine sign he could miss Sunday’s game.

Is Breece Hall Playing for New York in Week 2?

So is Breece Hall playing for New York in Week 2? He is officially questionable, but I’d say he would’ve received the probable tag if that were something head coaches still handed out. The Jets have been quite intentional about Hall’s usage thus far, and suddenly holding him out of Week 2 after he was able to practice fully on Friday would be a strange move.

The full practice session on Friday is a positive sign because it follows the same pattern as what he did in practice last week. Hall was a limited participant on Thursday and Friday but got in a full session on Saturday before last week’s Monday night contest. All signs point to Hall playing in Week 2, although he should remain limited.
