It’s already on the move, so we moved it back. The 42.5 total is going to be tough for each team to reach for different reasons. The Chargers offense is in neutral at best. After scoring 23 points against the Ravens at the end of November, it’s been three straight games of 17 points. The Broncos are dealing with a young quarterback struggling to keep the football (more below) and might have a harder time peppering Courtland Sutton. Neither of these defenses runs favorable sets against the opposing quarterbacks.
The Broncos should limit X plays with their secondary, while the Chargers should frustrate Nix.
Bo Nix Over 0.5 Interceptions
Speaking of which … Nix throwing a pick seems inevitable. It’s not any stretch — the man has thrown five picks over the past two games. But the Chargers do run a couple of defensive schemes that should highlight Nix struggles, mainly cover 4. Added pressure on Nix should help funnel some bad throws; any contact should further help our cause. It’s not just the other side, as Sean Payton will also be complicit.
The Broncos have shown zero interest in reeling in Nix despite costly turnovers. That’s good for us.
Javonte Williams Over 11.5 Receiving Yards
In order to mitigate mistakes by their young quarterback, the Denver Broncos must protect Nix. They are down a running back in Jaleel McLaughlin, which hurts both their depth on the ground and ability to protect. At this point, there’s a volume play alone on Williams here where he should see extra snaps. With extra snaps comes the trust from his coach that he can at least protect the quarterback. Remember, as stated above, Nix is going to struggle throwing deep or pushing for X plays, so the underneath routes to running backs should see more attention.
