The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Zay Jones to a three-year, $24 million deal in the offseason. The former second-round pick has stuck the NFL around as a big-bodied X-receiver since flaming out with the Buffalo Bills. Jones put together an excellent camp and beat reporter John Shipley labeled him the team’s best red-zone and deep-threat receiver.
Jones caught five touchdowns this season, the second-most of his career. He also drew a career-high 121 targets and caught a career-high 82 passes. Jones’ lack of scoring production doesn’t align with his usage. He ended the year ranked second on the Jaguars in red-zone target rate (23.7%). Unfortunately, Jones only reeled in eight of his 18 red-zone looks from Trevor Lawrence, and he turned just three into touchdowns.

Jones should benefit from touchdown regression. He draws ample red-zone looks and has the large frame necessary to beat cornerbacks and safeties at the NFL level. Jones did exactly that against the Chargers back in Week 3. He caught 10 of his 11 targets in that contest, including a 14-year touchdown on an improvised route between safety Nasir Adderley and cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.
The Chargers have given up plenty of touchdowns to big-bodied wideouts. Courtland Sutton scored one against them last week. Davante Adams scored three touchdowns across two matchups. DeAndre Hopkins caught one as well.
