Chiefs-Packers First Touchdown Picks for Sunday Night Football

Sunday Night Football rarely disappoints with such a marquee matchup in Lambeau Field. However, this hasn’t been the year of domination for the Kansas City Chiefs – at least not on offense – and Jordan Love’s Packers are far from any beacon of consistency. Despite a loaded injury report, the line still sits at 6 at most books. Plenty of offense should be expected when looking at each team’s lineups, so let’s see who is ready for prime time. Here are the best Sunday Night Football first touchdown bets!

Chiefs-Packers First Touchdown Picks | Sunday Night Football

Kansas City Chiefs Touchdown Scorer

The Chiefs are dealing with two major issues when it comes to their passing game. The first being everyone in the world knows the ball is going to Travis Kelce. The other is when it doesn’t, there’s now legit concern of whether the receiver will actually catch the football. Patrick Mahomes is visibly frustrated when it comes to the lack of overall production from his receivers, at least until the second half of last week’s game against the Raiders.

There was one notable change in focus from the Chiefs loss to the Eagles then their comeback win over the Raiders. It’s one that is worth a look here for the first TD. Kelce is the strongest chalk on the board, and rightfully so with his talent and target share. Mahomes looked elsewhere last week following a couple of massive drops, finding Rashee Rice eight times off ten targets, including a score. He’s a great fit at 11-1 on FanDuel to score first as Rice might be the most trustworthy “wide” receiver on the team.

The Packers are going to focus on limiting the damage done by Kelce to the point of leaving a lane or two open for Rice. There’s a big play capability getting behind the Packers secondary, and redzone with Rice’s ability to move pre and post snap. The Chiefs will have something cooked up to get Rice open early in this game. Betting on him over 10-1 to score first is the best option.

Green Bay Packers First Touchdown Scorer

So, about those Packers. Green Bay dismantled the Lions on Thanksgiving thanks in part to some questionable calls by the opposing coaching staff. Nonetheless, here comes Jordan Love and this offense brimming with confidence. Love has thrown for five TDs versus no interceptions over the past two games – both victories. The passing game faces a tough one against a revamped Chiefs pass defense.

Expect the Pack to work around Kansas City’s pass defense by trying to get some early runs in, but they aren’t too deep at the RB position. Aaron Jones was ruled out earlier in the week, leaving AJ Dillon as the lead back behind a thin committee. That leaves Matt LeFleur a little room to work some similar routes for Jayden Reed as KC will Rice. In fact, Reed comes off a season-high 8 targets last game against the Lions. He’s also scored in two of his last three games.

Clearly there’s an established level of trust between Love and Reed, as well as the Packers offense funneling the ball through their rookie wideout. Expect an early dose of targets to Reed in order to compliment the run game. Love is hot right now so riding his hand combined with the target share of Reed makes the most sense. Bet Reed to score first at 16-1 on FanDuel.
