Daniel Jones Injury Update: Is New York’s Star Playing Sunday?
Daniel Jones Injury Update
Latest Daniel Jones Injury Update (October 22 at 8:05 AM Eastern): Jones is not expected to play on Sunday.
Unfortunately for the Giants, Daniel Jones had to miss last week’s game against the Buffalo Bills. The Giants, led by backup Tyrod Taylor, put up an admirable fight against the Bills — but they fell just short of a win. Jones failed to practice all week before last Sunday’s game, but he has logged limited this week and is questionable for Week 7.
Jones’ return to practice is an encouraging sign, but it doesn’t mean he’ll be good to go in Week 7. The Giants are still dealing with numerous injuries along the offensive line. Star tackle Andrew Thomas remains out, and rookie center John Michael Schmitz is out, too. Swing tackle Matt Peart is out, too, and right tackle Evan Neal is questionable.
The Giants signed Jones to a $160 million contract this offseason, so they would be wise not to risk his long-term health. On Friday, head coach Brian Daboll said that while Jones was able to practice and throw the ball, he was yet to be cleared for contact.
Is Daniel Jones Playing for New York in Week 7?
So is Daniel Jones playing for New York in Week 7? I doubt it. Jones’ failure to return to be cleared for contact is a massive red flag, and even though Daboll left the door open by listing the quarterback as questionable, too much has to change before kickoff on Sunday for him to take the field.

If Jones sits, the Giants will turn to backup Tyrod Taylor again. Taylor played serviceable against the Bills last week, completing 66.7% of his passes for 200 yards. He added another 24 yards with his legs. Although Taylor made a bad decision right before halftime that cost the Giants a field goal, his mobility makes him a valuable asset behind this depleted offensive line.
