Deshaun Watson Injury Update: Is Cleveland’s Star Playing Sunday?

Deshaun Watson Injury Update

The latest Deshaun Watson injury update has the QB ruled out of Sunday’s game.

With Dorian Thompson-Robinson now starting, the Browns are no longer the betting favorite. Originally a -145 favorite on the moneyline, the Browns are now underdogs.

Deshaun Watson failed to log a full practice session all week due to a nagging right shoulder injury. That’s all the more important because Watson is a right-handed quarterback, and ultimately he wasn’t able to go.

Earlier in the week, the Browns chose to elevate third-string quarterback P.J. Walker from the practice squad on Saturday afternoon. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said he was “hopeful” Watson would play when talking to reporters after Friday’s practice.

Is Deshaun Watson Playing for Cleveland in Week 4?

So is Deshaun Watson playing for Cleveland in Week 4? We don’t know yet, but it doesn’t look good. Teams rarely elevate their practice-squad quarterbacks if they are confident in the starter’s availability. However, that may not be as true as it once was — Cleveland could just be trying to use the emergency quarterback rule to their advantage.

If Watson can’t go, the Browns have rookie backup Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who looked electric in the preseason. DTR arrived in Cleveland from UCLA, where he played under Chip Kelly for five seasons. He was a fifth-round draft selection and played well enough such that the Browns felt they could trade their initial backup, Josh Dobbs.
