Latest Geno Smith Injury Update: As of the time of this update (8:22 AM eastern), Geno is considered a literal and true game-time decision.

Geno Smith Injury Update

The Seahawks may have gotten really unlucky during this week’s practice. Starting quarterback Geno Smith suffered a groin injury during Thursday’s practice, limiting him then, and holding him out of Friday’s practice session entirely. He is now officially questionable.

Head coach Pete Carroll has been talking like backup quarterback Drew Lock is likely in line to start. “[Lock] has been waiting for this opportunity,” he said, adding “If this comes to pass, he is as ready as he’s going to get.”

The Seahawks signed journeyman quarterback Sean Mannion to their practice squad on Thursday in the wake of Smith’s injury. They had not elevated him from their practice squad by publication.

Is Geno Smith Playing for Seattle on Sunday?

So, is Geno Smith playing for the Seahawks on Sunday? I don’t think so. They already have a bunch of other injuries to deal with, as both their top running backs are questionable, and Carroll’s comments suggests Lock has a high chance of starting on Sunday.

Whether the Seahawks choose to elevate Mannion from the practice squad will say a lot about the injury to Geno Smith. If they don’t, Smith will either start or is healthy enough to back up Lock. If they do, Smith is almost certainly out.

Few betting markets are open on this game at bet365 and across the market — no passing props are in sight for Seattle’s quarterbacks. However, if Seattle rules out Smith, I’m locking in Drew Lock to throw an interception anywhere short of -200 (66.7%). Lock threw one interceptable pass for every 10.9 pass attempts in 2021 and one every 16.4 pass attempts in 2020.
