Yuck. While the expectations for the New York Giants wouldn’t be much better with Daniel Jones still starting, the Dallas Cowboys are now stuck in backup purgatory. Sure, Dallas comes off an impressive win over Washington behind Cooper Rush; it’s just a question of how long it can last. Facing the Giants should be an easy facilitator of that, but it’s a short week for both teams, both backups and both with seasons lost. Buckle up: We have two professional football teams in the same division looking to wear the smallest amount of egg on their face. Let’s find the best Giants-Cowboys anytime touchdown bet for Thanksgiving.
Giants-Cowboys Anytime Touchdown Bet for Thursday
The Giants are just awful. They don’t do anything well and are either too dejected or banged up in areas where they can make an impact. Clearly, that’s not the quarterback position. Malik Nabers was a ghost last week against Tampa Bay, and nobody else has the talent to outplay a bad quarterback — no offense, Wan’Dale Robinson. Everyone on New York looks checked out, including the coach — or at least I hope so, as that best describes his play calling. We are better off ignoring this side and identifying the value on Dallas.
While that might not jump off the page at -110 to +100 for an anytime touchdown, so much of this game is matchup based. Rico Dowdle’s price to score is up to +105 on Fliff and worth a shot. Let’s work in reverse; the Giants just got torched in the air by Tampa Bay running backs. That’s not going to be fixed on a short week, even against a worse quarterback. In fact, the aggressive (and sometimes successful) pass rush should force Dowdle to be more involved in the air game.
Dowdle’s 19 carries last week against the Commanders were second to his season-high 20. There’s an increased focus on Dowdle in both the air and ground game to compensate Rush in for Dak Prescott. While the offense looks to continue to adjust around Rush, the easiest way to create comfort is behind Dowdle.
Be it by land or through the air, the Cowboys are best served by going through their top back. This would be a strong strategy even with a healthy Prescott on a shorter week, so I like it even more behind Rush. Don’t expect much letdown from Dallas after a big win over Washington, as the Giants are so miserable they won’t know any better. New York isn’t talented enough to bounce back from the whooping it got last week. Play Dowdle to score.
