The Cincinnati Bengals have gotten some concerning injury news of late. Star wide receiver Tee Higgins is dealing with a hamstring injury and has already been ruled out of Week 10. Fellow wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been dealing with an injury of his own and is questionable for Sunday’s action. Let’s look at the most recent Ja’Marr Chase injury updates as we assess whether he will be playing in Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. Ja’Marr Chase Injury Update: Is Cincinnati’s Star Playing Sunday?
Ja’Marr Chase Injury Update
The Cincinnati Bengals lean heavily on quarterback Joe Burrow and the passing game, so having to list a pair of star wide receivers on the injury report is a big concern. Tee Higgins is out, which makes Ja’Marr Chase that much more important. Chase is questionable with a back injury. He missed Wednesday’s practice before logging limited reps on both Thursday and Friday. Some sites have reported that Chase is expected to play through the injury, but it may come down to pregame warmups.
Back injuries are nothing to mess with, especially for wide receivers, and the Cincinnati Bengals will have to play the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football this week. With Cincinnati already at 0-2 in AFC North play, Thursday’s game matters far more than Sunday’s. Although it sounds like Chase will suit up — especially if you take the wide receiver at face value after he told reporters on Thursday that, “for me, in my head, I said that I’m playing” — the Bengals have to be cautious here.
Is Ja’Marr Chase Playing for Cincinnati on Sunday?
So is Ja’Marr Chase playing for Cincinnati on Sunday? I’d say he is active unless announced inactive; in other words, he is trending on the right side of questionable. The Bengals were able to give him limited reps in practice on both Thursday and Friday. It’s possible that head coach Zac Taylor opts to have Chase active but scale down his workload, but given what we’ve heard from Chase during the week, he’ll likely be lobbying for as much playing time as he can handle.
As of Saturday evening, the Bengals were trading as a 6.5-point favorite over the Houston Texans on bet365. Cincinnati was trading at just 5.5 on Friday evening. Like Cincinnati, Houston is dealing with a similarly long injury report: star Houston wideout Nico Collins has already been ruled out. Chase’s receiving yardage prop sits all the way up at 85.5, and if you’re in any way skeptical of his workload, taking the under at odds of -105 could prove sharp. New to bet365?
