There’s just one question for tonight’s Lions-49ers game in San Francisco: Has Dan Campbell learned his lesson? After insisting on playing starters in a meaningless game last year where Sam LaPorta went down, the Lions head coach finds himself in a similar situation. Everything is on the line next week against the Vikings, the division and top seed in the conference. As for tonight, it’s hard to say how much either team cares about this game, but that opens some nice value across the board. Ricky Pearsall Over 21.5 Receiving Yards
While I do love the under in the game total (gave it out on Tails too), it’s not like we won’t see any offense. The trick in tonight’s game is either finding a sweet spot for a limited starter or playing someone who straddles the line between action and reserve. The latter is Ricky Pearsall, who continues to get looks deeper into the season with both other guys around him struggling and the team’s season already over. We should see an active Pearsall taking advantage of the heavy man coverage Detroit plays, knowing it won’t have more than one guy on him at a time. He might hit this on one grab.
Ricky Pearsall Anytime Touchdown
If it’s just one grab, let’s make it count. The reality is Pearsall will have plenty of chances to get into the end zone. The Lions aren’t keying on this rookie, and there’s a far greater chance he can slip by an opposing defender. With the lack of zone coverage from Detroit, it’s easier for Pearsall with his speed to get behind or in the corner of the field. The 49ers may look awful and disheveled at times, but they still have a competent coaching staff who should recognize this favorable matchup.
Brock Purdy Over 18.5 Rushing Yards
Feel free to push this up to 22 yards. An alt play is fine; I’m just taking the current number as it stands. Detroit defenses leave holes for quarterbacks who can run. Most quarterbacks can move, and Purdy is no stranger to tucking and extending a drive with his feet. The passing game has been clunky at best, and the 49ers still need to move the ball without Christian McCaffery. While he won’t lead the team in rushing, Purdy should fare as well as other mobile quarterbacks who have cleared 18.5 yards.
