NFL Coach of the Year Odds Analysis

It’s no surprise to see Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus at the top of the list. Entering his third year in Chicago with his most talented roster yet, Eberflus has ample opportunity to significantly improve this organization and solidify his path to winning this award.

Toward the middle of the pack, one name that stands out is Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans. Last season, Ryans and Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski received the same number of voting points for the Coach of the Year Award, but Stefanski edged him out with one additional first-place vote.

Be cautious about investing in Ryans, though — the bar for his team is set incredibly high, and beating those expectations in a league where consistency is challenging could prove to be a tall order.

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, currently at +1700, has a strong case for receiving bets on this award. With a Hall of Fame quarterback returning, a dominant defense, and a potentially easier division, Saleh’s prospects for a successful season look promising.

@dannyburke5: In his first official season as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Raheem Morris is set for success. Morris previously served as the Falcons’ interim head coach during the 2020 season before moving on to become the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. Now back in Atlanta, Morris is ready to leverage his experience and familiarity with the team to make huge strides forward.

Morris will inherit a roster featuring Kirk Cousins, Bijan Robinson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts and other key pieces that will form a formidable offense. More importantly, he will benefit from having the league’s easiest schedule and a division that is wide open for the taking.

A realistic expectation for this group is to make the playoffs. Anything less would be considered a failure. One of the biggest obstacles for Morris is the Bears having a great season, but with a rookie quarterback and a tough division, there is a good chance they’ll struggle.

Outside of Eberflus, I believe Morris has the strongest outlook for capturing this award. There’s really no excuse for the Falcons not to achieve their postseason goals, and that’s what makes Morris such an attractive bet at the price of +1500.

NFL Coach of the Year 2024-25 Expert Pick: Raheem Morris (+1500 at Caesars)

@is_sirois: I agree with Danny that Morris is a sharp pick to win the NFL Coach of the Year Award this season. But below him on the odds board is a coach who checks off the biggest box that Kevin Stefanski checked last year: Getting something from nothing with his quarterback situation.

Kevin O’Connell already lost his quarterback, first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, for the season. He’ll get to work with Sam Darnold, who is on his on his fourth team already, this year. While Darnold struggled mightily for the New York Jets early in his career, since 2022, he ranks 13th in Ben Baldwin’s EPA+CPOE composite score on 244 dropbacks.

O’Connell nearly got this Vikings team to the postseason with Josh Dobbs, Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall leading the way after Kirk Cousins suffered an injury early in the year. Darnold is almost certainly an upgrade over all three of those guys, and he’ll get to work with a talented offensive cast that includes Justin Jefferson, a second-year Jordan Addison and Aaron Jones.

Although I doubt this Vikings team will win the NFC North, they’re more live than most think now that McCarthy is down for the count, and O’Connell could easily win the NFL Coach of the Year Award without the Vikings making much noise outside of the Wild Card race, especially if his success comes at the expense of Matt Eberflus and the Chicago Bears.
