The 2023 NFL draft saw four defensive players go in the top ten picks. Will Anderson was the highest overall, having been the aforementioned 3rd overall pick. He was followed by Devon Witherspoon at #5 to the Seattle Seahawks, Tyree Wilson at #7 to the Las Vegas Raiders and Jalen Carter at #9. The Philadelphia Eagles swapped picks with the Chicago Bears to move up one spot and acquire Carter.
Of those four players, Anderson is the odds on favorite to win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. The odds on DraftKings have Anderson at +350 to take the hardware. The market is giving a slight boost to edge rushers, as Tyree Wilson and Jalen Carter are behind Will Anderson at +800. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon was selected higher than both those two, but has only at 9:1 on the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year odds board.
The next four defensive players taken in the draft all have odds north of 10:1 to win the award LB.Lukas Van Ness (+1200) was selected 13th by the Green Bay Packers. Will McDonald IV went 15th to the New York Jets. Cornerbacks Emmanuel Forbes and Christian Gonzalez were selected 16th and 17th by the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots, respectively.
Nolan Smith was the lowest drafted player to make the top of the NFL Defensive Rookie of The Year odds board. The edge rusher out of University of Georgia was taken by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 30th overall pick. He will join his college teammate Jalen Carter to make an exciting young duo in the NFL, however their presence on the same team creates some negative correlation in their betting chances.
