Week 8 of the NFL is here, and teams are starting to take their position as true contenders or as squads looking to secure a top draft pick. Survivor pools are getting down to the crucial point where the majority of teams have lost and surviving just one more week could make the difference. Miami Dolphins (-9.5) vs. New England Patriots | NFL Survivor Week 8
The Dolphins are coming off a humbling loss in Philadelphia, and there are questions to be asked about this team against elite competition. It will have future opportunities to answer those, but in the meantime a home matchup against New England is a perfect bounce-back spot. Miami already had some very easy games in New York and Carolina, so it’s possible a lot of people in pools already used them. This offense should get right back on track against the Patriots defense, and as such, the Dolphins are massive -450 moneyline favorites.
The bigger question is, if the Dolphins are available, would it be better to stash them for the future? They still have some very manageable spots on the schedule, including home to the Raiders and Titans, so the opportunity cost is relatively high. Still, given the offensive firepower and being back at home, Miami is an easy case to make this week.
Detroit Lions (-8) vs. Las Vegas Raiders | NFL Survivor Week 8
Speaking of humbling losses, it doesn’t get more humbling than what the Lions experienced last game. Many had whispered that this might be the best team in the NFL heading into Baltimore, but after being thoroughly outplayed, it is back to the drawing board. As head coach Dan Campbell mentioned, it might not have been the worst thing for a team that belongs in the conversation but hasn’t been in this position before. The Lions return to Detroit for a Monday night game against a Raiders squad with all sorts of issues.
The Lions have the Bears and Broncos as future home opponents, both of which will make them sizeable favorites. Outside of those, this is the time to target Detroit at north of -400 and in a perfect bounce-back spot. Jared Goff clearly enjoys being in the dome, and with the Raiders’ own quarterback issues, it’s hard to imagine they can do much to a Detroit team looking for a quick return to form. If Miami is not available, Detroit checks most of the boxes for Survivor this week.
Los Angeles Chargers (-8.5) vs. Chicago Bears | NFL Survivor Week 8
The Chargers are another team coming off a loss, but in their case it might just be because the team isn’t going anywhere this season. They are just 2-4, and it’s already becoming must-win territory given the amount of talent they have. A Sunday night matchup at home against the Bears is a pretty favorable draw for a team that has to win this week. Justin Herbert can certainly throw the ball, but the Chargers simply have not been able to avoid the crucial mistakes at the biggest moments, which has been the case with them for years.
The reason the Chargers are the best Survivor pick available is the rest of their schedule and the fact don’t they have a ton of future value. They have a home game late in the season against Denver, and that is about it for reasonable Survivor options. It’s now or never with the Chargers, and you will be thankful you got rid of them in this spot if they are able to find a win. Should they get the job down, it will be a much easier stretch run in Survivor after using a volatile squad with a tough second half of the schedule.
