Teaser bets, or parlay bets on teased-around numbers, are a necessary weapon against the books. Each week, we will find the best spots for favorites or dogs and work them into a three-team teaser. Teasing an NFL game should always be done on the side — rarely, if ever, the total — and should be done to pass through at least three key numbers. Ideally, those would be three, six and seven — with 14 being the fourth-most important number followed by 10. The books know this, too. Here are the three best teaser bets for Week 1 in the NFL!

NFL Teaser Week 1 | Bets for Bengals-Browns, Bills-Jets
49ers-Steelers | Week 1
It’s as cliché as it gets to open a paragraph about the first game of the season, but the wrong team is favored. I took a deeper dive into this game in my NFL upset picks column, but Pittsburgh has the better, more consistent coach. The Niners are backing Brock Purdy coming off a major injury all while trying to prove last year was no fluke and doing it on the road in Pittsburgh! The public is in love with Kyle Shanahan, Purdy and the rest of the Niners, but sharp money has moved it through +3. At 2.5, this is a perfect line to tease up any dog, and Mike Tomlin’s 11-5 straight-up (SU) record in home openers is enough to back. Add his 27-12-1 SU record with TJ Watt against Shanahan’s awful 14-30 SU record without Jimmy Garoppolo, and it’s an easy decision to back the Steelers.
Bengals-Browns | Week 1
With so much focus on a full camp and preseason for Deshaun Watson, it might be easy to forget some major changes for the Browns on defense. Look no further than the addition of Jim Schwartz as an upgrade over Joe Woods. Watson is certainly going to look more comfortable with more time, but he has a tough test right out of the gate in keeping up with Joe Burrow. The Bengals are expected to score a bunch of points but that hasn’t always been the case with Burrow against Schwartz.
In the three times that the Schwartz has faced Burrow, the Cincinnati gunslinger was held to 23, 20, and 19 points. With Cincinnati’s implied total all the way up at 25, teasing the Browns to cover at least eight makes sense. Schwartz is way more comfortable at home, allowing five points and nearly 50 yards per game fewer than on the road. Teams that open the season on the road following two road preseason games are 6-14-1 ATS since 2014. There is little to no value on the actual spread, which makes the teaser an even stronger option.
Bills-Jets | Week 1
Aaron Rodgers makes his Jets debut in front of every single human being with any interest in football. Monday night at MetLife is going to be a spectacle, but in this case, it still offers solid value for the home team. Robert Saleh’s defense has improved each year he has been at the helm for New York, and with a consistent force at quarterback, he can focus even more on the other side of the ball. Be it Rodgers’ predecessor in Green Bay, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Matthew Stafford, recent history has proven a veteran star can swap teams and immediately make the playoffs. One can always check out Rodgers in home openers and simply back his 14-1 SU and 13-2 ATS record since 2008, but the clincher is his 18:1 TD-to-INT ratio during those games. It’s going to take a monster effort for a Bills team already down Von Miller. Monday night favorites are currently riding a 19-39-1 ATS run, which drops to 12-34-1 ATS if the total is at or above 41 points.
