The tail end of the Christmas day double-header finds us in Houston as the Texans try to cool off the Ravens. Baltimore has flipped a couple of narratives from the start of the season, primarily its defense turning things around over the past few games. The offense continues to roll, led by MVP hopeful Lamar Jackson. Meanwhile, things have slowed down for the Texans despite clinching their weak AFC South division. Houston Texans Under 21.5 Team Total
The Ravens defense has stepped up and shut down opponents. It’s not the same unit that was getting torched at the start and midway points of the season, rather one that has limited big games from opposing offenses. Houston is not in a great spot to turn that around, not on this shorter week against a tough Ravens team. Houston will be playing catch-up, forcing C.J. Stroud to throw and limiting carries from Joe Mixon. Even if Houston gets down big, one has to wonder at what point it will move to backups as it prepares for the playoffs.
Lamar Jackson Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns
The MVP odds may be off the board, but don’t tell Lamar Jackson. The Ravens quarterback is playing like a man on a mission to lead his team to the Super Bowl while collecting some hardware. There may not be a better team against which to pad stats than the Texans, at least with passing touchdowns. Houston gives up a league-leading number of passing scores, and Jackson’s offense has big plays written all over the script. Two in the air isn’t a big ask.
Joe Mixon Under 65.5 Rushing Yards
The final piece of our puzzle is complete with another round of fading Houston. This time it’s a guy who is too inconsistent to hit over his total. The Texans might not be in that close of a game, taking Mixon out from a carry standpoint. There’s also the pacing of this game; trying to keep up with Jackson and the Ravens offense isn’t easy. Houston may bail early on the run like we’ve seen other teams do against Baltimore as they justify trying to keep up. That sacrifices Mixon’s rushing yards.
