Saquon Barkley Injury Update: Is New York’s Star Playing Sunday?

Saquon Barkley Injury Update

Update October 8 at 8:50 am: The latest Saquon Barkley Injury Update has the Giants operating without the star RB.

Unfortunately for the Giants, Saquon Barkley went down with an ankle injury late in Week 3. He missed Week 4 after picking up a doubtful tag despite logging limited practice sessions all week. He picked up a questionable tag for this week after again logging limited sessions all week.

Head coach Brian Daboll was non-committal about Barkley’s availability when asked early in the week. However, he conceded that Barkley had “made progress.” Barkley himself said that he was “encouraged” but added, “I don’t want to make any guarantees.” Still, picking up a questionable tag is much better than the doubtful tag he earned last week.

Is Saquon Barkley Playing for New York in Week 5?

So is Saquon Barkley playing for New York against Miami in Week 5? The short answer is that we don’t know. Barkley has routinely managed to shorten traditional injury timelines for himself, and he is as tough as they come. It’s nice to hear some positive news out of New York, too, although nothing is guaranteed.

That Barkley was able to log limited practice sessions all week before picking up a doubtful tag before Week 4 makes assessing his availability all the more difficult. NFL injury analyst Deepak Chona gives Barkley a 60% chance to play. But with New York moving from a 10.5-point underdog early to a 12.5-point dog now, the market likely expects him to sit.
