Super Bowl Odds Analysis

Heading into the 2024 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are the co-favorites to win Super Bowl LIX. After making it to the big game last year, both teams boast odds of +600 (14.3%) or shorter at FanDuel.

Kansas City’s main competition in the AFC is expected to come from the Baltimore Ravens, who clock in at +1100 (8.3%). The Ravens made it to the AFC Championship Game last year before getting embarrassed by the Chiefs.

In the NFC, the 49ers are expected to face the stiffest competition from the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, both of which clock in at or shorter than +1300 (7.1%). The Lions made it to the NFC Championship Game a year ago, while the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl two years prior.

The Houston Texans are the first team not to make it to a recent Conference Championship Game on the odds board at +1500 (6.3%). Second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud has taken the league by storm and is expected to compete for MVP honors this season.

As we get further down the board, two recent contenders in the AFC Championship Game, the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, stand out. The New York Jets, who did not make the playoffs last season, own the best odds of last year’s non-playoff teams at +1800 (5.3%).

Super Bowl Odds: NFL Expert Betting Picks (2025)

@dburke5: Unless Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady is starting at quarterback, most teams go through seasons of volatility and often fail to reach expectations. That was certainly the case with the Philadelphia Eagles, who, after a Super Bowl appearance in 2022, were expected to be strong contenders to win it all last season.

However, they ended up finishing second in their division and suffered a humiliating 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round. With the bar set a bit lower for them this season, at least outside of their locker room, they should feel less of the pressure and complacency that plagued them last year. Plus, the additions of running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver Jahan Dotson to an already stacked offense will undoubtedly provide an extra spark.

In the NFC East, the New York Giants are still a nightmare, the Washington Commanders are enduring a transitional phase throughout their organization and I believe the Dallas Cowboys will have a down year. The division is there for the taking if you’re the Eagles. With a deeper roster than before, more experience and one of the 10 easiest schedules in the NFL — I believe Philly is set up for success.

Sure, the NFC will likely still have to go through San Francisco, or even Detroit — but given the price and roster talent we have available on the Eagles, it’s too appealing to pass up. It’s important to take them now because it’s not going to take long for Philadelphia to get back into a rhythm. And once they do that, the books will receive more betting attention on their futures odds and will have to adjust the line to a shorter price, so make sure to pull the trigger before the season begins.

NFL Expert Super Bowl 2025 Pick: Philadelphia Eagles (+1400 at DraftKings)

@is_sirois: While “playoff experience” often gets bandied about as something crucial for postseason success, a complete lack of it didn’t stop Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers from throttling the Dallas Cowboys last season — and from almost knocking off the San Francisco 49ers the very next week.

The Packers were pretty good last season. They ended the regular season ranked fifth in offensive expected points added (EPA) per play but were only 23rd in EPA allowed per play on defense. However, when we look from Week 12 through the Divisional Round, we see that the Green Bay offense ranked second (behind only San Francisco) in the metric.

Heading into 2024, the Packers and 49ers should be perceived as the class of the NFL in terms of offensive output. They were last year, especially when it mattered.

Of course, the old maxim goes that defense wins championships. The Packers were not efficient defensively last year. However, they added a new defensive coordinator in Jeff Hafley and a new safety pairing of veteran Xavier McKinney and rookie Javon Bullard. Although we’re yet to see any results from the new group, the offense should have more than enough life to give the Packers a puncher’s chance at the Super Bowl.

Green Bay should come it with odds slightly shorter than +1800, so get them at those odds while you can. For my full NFL Futures card (I profited 9U on futures last season), sign up for my expert picks package, The Profit Isaiah
