Super Bowl Player Props: Bettors Done Doubting Patrick Mahomes

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes went into the Conference Championship sporting a significant limp from a high ankle sprain suffered the previous week. Bettors were quick to fade Mahomes and the Chiefs given the circumstances but were proved wrong. Now, the Patrick Mahomes player props for Super Bowl VII are highly popular, with bettors backing the quarterback instead of questioning whether or not he can succeed.

Bettors Backing Patrick Mahomes Player Props For Super Bowl LVII

According to Caesars Sportsbook‘s Max Meyer, the most bet prop at Caesars is on Patrick Mahomes over passing yards. The Mahomes player prop opened at 280.5 passing yards but has since jumped to 291.5 with all the public action. Caesars is currently offering new users who want to place a bet on the Super Bowl up to $1,250 in free credit back with any wager on the game!

Mahomes opened the postseason by completing 22 of 30 passes for just 195 yards in the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional Round. He followed up with a monster performance, completing 29 of 43 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns, leading the game-winning drive to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 last weekend. Mahomes proved with the performance that he can still be great while playing through his current injury.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported after the game that Mahomes didn’t do any further damage to the sprained ankle.

“Indications are Patrick Mahomes came out of Sunday’s game without any major setbacks on the high ankle sprain. Was told he’s in good shape post game.,” wrote Fowler on Twitter.

The Chiefs opened as a 2.5-point underdog against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, but have since moved to just +1.5 (on DraftKings Sportsbook). The Chiefs were also underdogs against the Bengals in the AFC Championship.

“Every time I walk on a field,” Mahomes said last week, per NY Post“I don’t feel like I’m an underdog. Especially at Arrowhead.”

No, Patrick Mahomes won’t get the advantage of playing in front of his home crowd at Arrowhead Stadium next weekend, but it’s still hard to imagine he’ll have many people surprised if he puts together another dominant performance. Based on the latest Super Bowl player props, bettors are behind Mahomes this time around… bad ankle or not.
