Compher comes into the Saturday night tilt with Calgary as the Avs’ fourth-leading scorer (40), with 12 goals and 28 assists. He has also been stuffing the stat sheet of late, tallying eight points in his past three games.
“I feel more comfortable in that position this year,” he said, per Daily Camera. “I think I knew I could do it, but now I feel more comfortable actually doing it. … Bedsy’s giving me more responsibility, and I’m just trying to make the most of it.”
The Avs center has added to the career-year narrative by averaging over 0.50 points per game for the first time in his seven-year career. Still, the Flames present Colorado and Compher with a different dilemma than they have been accustomed to in recent games. The Flames (27-20-12) currently rank in fifth place in the Western Conference Pacific Division and will look to climb the standings and cure the bad taste in their mouths from last year’s gutting playoff exit at the hands of the rival Edmonton Oilers.
A win over the defending champs on Saturday would go a long way for the Flames, and OddsShopper models like their chances to hold J.T. Compher off the stat sheet.
