Flames-Jets Playoff Odds Shift After Calgary Wins Crucial Western Conference Tilt

The Calgary Flames playoff odds indicate they will still need a lot of things to fall into place to compete for a Stanley Cup this season. Calgary bounced back from a gutting loss to the Chicago Blackhawks earlier in the week to win a pivotal matchup against the Winnipeg Jets Wednesday, but the Flames NHL Playoff odds show they still need some help to make the postseason.

Flames Playoff Odds: Calgary Still Needs a Whole Lot of Help

DraftKings Sportsbook has released odds on several NHL teams to reach the postseason. Calgary (+200) remains an underdog despite the much-needed win over the Jets. Despite the loss, the Jets (-165) are still favored to reach the playoffs.

The Flames-Jets game was all knotted up at one goal heading into the third period when Walker Duehr broke the scoreless tie with a goal four minutes into the period. Defenseman Nikita Zadorov added an insurance goal and the Flames cruised to a 3-1 victory.

“We won the game,” said Darryl Sutter of the only thing that mattered, per Sportsnet. “The media and outside the room has been telling us it’s the biggest game, or we’re over, or how bad we are since the all-star break.

“It’s like I tell the players, ‘block it out, play the game.’”

With the win, the Flames have now forced a tie with the Jets for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, but Winnipeg has a game in hand entering the homestretch. Calgary was bounced from the playoffs last season by the Edmonton Oilers in five games. They then lost star winger Johnny Gaudreau in free agency, and have struggled to meet expectations throughout the season.

Still, the Flames have a chance to sneak into a wild card spot. They play the Vancouver Canucks, Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks to close out the season. The Jets will play the Sharks and Predators before closing their season against tough opponents in the Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild.

The Jets & Flames playoff odds show that the Jets still have the inside track to win the final wild card spot in the West despite the loss. But the Flames are giving themselves a puncher’s chance as we enter the final week of the season.
