2023 Shriners Open First Look at Outright Odds: Wide-Open Field Providing Major Value Down the Board

Another regular stop on the PGA Tour schedule is here with the Shriners Open. This event and course are familiar to any PGA Tour regular, and with them come a sense of normalcy when trying to break down the event. It is still swing season, so betting outrights is still a matter of flying blind a bit, but knowing the layout of TPC Summerlin goes a long way. The field is a similar strength to last week’s at Sanderson Farms, giving a lot of guys a real chance to add a win to their resume. Let’s dive into the 2023 Shriners Open odds and find some potential outright plays.

2023 Shriners Open Outright Bet: Cameron Davis (22-1, FanDuel)

The top of the board is pretty wide open, with defending champ Tom Kim leading off. This is always a blessing and a curse, but everyone’s numbers aren’t as appealing and there is no major win equity up top. Among them, however, Cameron Davis at north of 20-1 has the ability to score and go low in this type of event.

Everything with Davis’ form checks out, as Fortinet was the last time he teed it up, and he finished third. He’s played this event four straight times, making the cut each year without truly getting in the mix. Like most players, if Davis can sync up the putter with this driving ability, he has a chance to be in the hunt late on Sunday.

2023 Shriners Open Outright Bet: Alex Smalley (55-1, FanDuel)

Alex Smalley has been in the conversation several times already this swing season, and he has all the tools to win on tour. So far Smalley has a pair of runner-up finishes in his career, and he continues to put himself in position to contend. Last week at Sanderson Farms, Smalley gained across the board, including three strokes with the putter.

Smalley has only played this event once, but more important than that is trying to link what the course demands with his skillset. Typically, this layout isn’t overly demanding, and it has calm weather and favorable scoring conditions, both of which suit Smalley. He should be able to lean on the ball striking, and if he continues to roll putts, this is the type of event to back Smalley. His price of 55-1 is reasonable given the field, and he is one of first clicks on the outright card.

2023 Shriners Open Outright Bet: Doug Ghim (75-1, FanDuel)

Doug Ghim‘s odds have fallen to a more appealing price given his missed cut last week. It was more of the same story at Sanderson Farms, with Ghim losing 3.5 strokes putting in just two rounds. That type of showing with the putter will prevent any outright tickets from getting close to cashing, but that can change fast.

Looking at the rest of Ghim’s game, he has crisp ball striking, with positive strokes gained on the approach and off the tee in four straight events. The putter, of course, can turn around at any time, and a change of surface could be what he needs. Furthermore, 75-1 is an appetizing number for a guy that has some of the best talent in this entire field. He could continue to have ice-cold putting, and that will be a quick end to outright hopes, but if not, this is a buy spot at this number.
