Here’s the lowdown on DraftKings Pick6: It is meant to mirror most pick’em sites, allowing you to build a two- to six-leg entry with larger payouts for more correct choices. However, the new product is peer-to-peer, meaning the strategy lies in beating other players in pre-selected tournaments rather than beating the house, making it important to be contrarian! DraftKings Pick6 Round 1 Predictions and PGA Championship Picks
Tiger Woods M/L 36.5 Holes Completed
It’s been four years and running since we’ve seen Tiger Woods finish top 20. He’s had the benefit of taking time between major events, including the familiarity of Augusta at this year’s Masters. The last time we saw Valhalla host the PGA was 10 years ago, and Tiger was brutal. He missed the cut, losing strokes everywhere except for around the green. Since then, the course has been lengthened and will be notably tougher to challenge this time around.
As will the field. Not only does Woods battle a harder course but a top-heavy field with long hitters that comfortably fit this course. Woods struggled on the bentgrass last decade, as it was one of his worst efforts in his two days of golf. Things haven’t improved for Tiger on the golf course or with age, so it is tough to imagine him making the cut this year — even with the extended rest.
We fire on less than 36.5 holes completed, unfortunately fading this all-timer.
DraftKings Pick6 Prediction: Tiger Woods LESS Than 36.5 Holes Completed
Keith Mitchell M/L Than 56.5 Finishing Position
A top-56 finish for Keith Mitchell at Valhalla? Sign me up. We have a solid fit for this course, ahead of this elevated field. Beyond Mitchell’s length, both off the tee and with longer irons, we see his ability to spike on the greens and score in bunches.
This bodes well for an early jump on the field Thursday or Friday, with enough of a push to ensure making the cut. While there is always concern with him on the final day to hold on or win outright, we are talking about a realistic landing spot of top-40 or better.
Mitchell has missed only one cut over the past 10 events played, as he’s been consistently gaining strokes in the distance categories. We’ve seen direct correlation in Mitchell gaining strokes on approach and tee shots to him finishing strong.
Looking at how he compares to the rest of the field, Mitchell is one of the best in strokes gained on approach and strokes gained off the tee, two key metrics in defeating Valhalla.
He’s poised for a solid run this week deeper into the weekend. While he won’t be in actual contention to win, he’s going to make the cut and push the remaining field.
DraftKings Pick6 Prediction: Keith Mitchell LESS Than 56.5 Finishing Position
Tyrrell Hatton M/L Than 13.5 Birdies Or Better
We round out our entry with a solid look at Tyrrell Hatton and his glove-like fit at this course. The LIV golfer has three top-10s in as many events on tour, combined with a ninth at Augusta. Hatton fits in nicely with Valhalla as someone who can benefit from scrambling and bogey avoidance. The rough is impossible and thick, especially around the green; anyone off with an approach shot will see an immense amount of pressure to save par. Hatton gained 1.21 strokes around the green at the Masters and should continue that in Kentucky.
He’s one of few in this current field that stands out in key categories like strokes gained around the green, off the tee, on approach and putting. The bentgrass is familiar territory for Hatton, knowing he’s found success without needing a massive number of strokes gained on the greens. Outside of putting, we look at some scoring stats for Hatton on longer par 4’s and approach shots ranging 200 to 230 yards, two more areas that he should excel against the field.
Beating the course is always the first step, but Hatton can feed off both the crowd and who is around him. He’s a fun player to watch when he’s hot and should net us 14 birdies over four days.
DraftKings Pick6 Prediction: Tyrrell Hatton MORE Than 13.5 Birdies or Better
