Jimmy Walker entered the RBC Heritage as the No. 406 ranked player in the world, but never lost faith that he could win against the world’s best players. He was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2017 and has been struggling to reg-gain his form ever since. But the 44-year-old has had success on the tour, winning six times.
“Yesterday, I got it going, and I was like, okay, wow. Now we need to pedal down, keep it going, and the same today,” Walker said, per Yahoo Sports. “It was take advantage, keep your head in the game, keep stroking it good, just keep doing all the things that I felt like I’ve been kind of working on, some old feels, old thoughts, and just stay on them and be really diligent about it because it’s so easy to just check out. It has been for me, especially after being sick.”
Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Walker (+900) is still a decently-sized underdog to win the RBC Heritage despite his standing through two rounds. He still finds himself behind Scottie Scheffler (+330), Xander Schauffele (+650) and Patrick Cantlay (+750).
Still, the opening two rounds have been extremely impressive out of Walker, who is an easy guy to root for the remainder of the tournament. The bettor who could net six figures on Walker will certainly be paying close attention when Walker begins his third round in the final group Saturday.
