The AT&T Pro-Am is certainly unique with big name celebrities tailing along for the first two days. Before we talk our AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am long shot bets, let’s talk about the event itself quickly.
The event is split between two courses in Pebble Beach and SpyGlass Hill, and features the return of Rory McIlroy among other top names in golf. Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland sandwich McIlroy with the shortest odds, so it’s on us to find the best long shot value in the field, with an emphasis on putting and surviving the conditions at Pebble.
Finding the best price on a longer shot is always important as there may be upwards to 2000 points difference between books. Here are our top 2024 Pebble Beach Pro-Am long shot bets and an honorable mention (no, it’s not Eric Cole).
2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Long Shot Bets
After three straight T-20s, including a T-8 and T-5, Brian Harman was exhausted in Dubai. Everything that worked well for him at the Hero and Sentry was a disaster overseas, as he lost strokes all over the course. Two key areas in overcoming the wind and celebrity distractions are putting and striking the ball. Harman was deadly on the green leading up to Dubai, and given the time to rest, there’s no indication he can’t pick back up with his flat stick. While it hasn’t been a super strength, Harman was still gaining strokes on approach shots – most notably throughout his T-5 at the Sentry.
Sitting at 80-1 on BetMGM, Harman is an interesting play here – if anything the value alone. He’s struggled at these courses, however, which does limit anyone’s overall odds. He’s made two straight cuts, despite not finishing the weekend in last year’s event. A healthy Harman is already focused on gaining strokes on and around the green, so he’s at least taking on this week at his best. We look at last week’s setback in Dubai as just that, and with extra time to rest, Harman should be laser focused with his putter.
Navigating the winds will be the more difficult task for Harman than the field itself. This is a major winner – winning last year at The Open and another finished at least T-13 in each of the other three. There’s no intimidation for Harman, nor will there be nerves on a Sunday for this smaller event. Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning looking on as Harman putts isn’t going to shake him off any line. There’s a difference between not enjoying events like this and not being a fit to win. At 80-1, Harman is certainly worth a shot to test how well he fits.
Best Long Shot Bets Outright Winner: Brian Harman (+8000, DraftKings)
Honorable Mention: Denny McCarthy (70-1 BetMGM)
We had a close one for a lot of last week’s tournament with our honorable mention, this one should be just as fun – at least a sweat! Denny McCarthy is one of the purest putters on tour and has played well at this even over the past two years. He’s coming in on a nice swing with a T-24 at the Sentry. He could putt his way to the weekend and isn’t going to be bogged down by any celebrity nonsense. Handling the windy conditions is a concern, but is for most of the field. Not many can putt like Denny. Take him at 70-1.
