The PGA tour returns to the mainland for the first time in 2024 as the American Express is set to tee off this weekend. Another staple of the early season, this tournament features a rotation of three different courses and a cut after 54 holes instead of 36. Let’s dive into the top PGA One and Done picks for the 2024 edition of the American Express. If you haven’t played One and Done before, here’s a quick primer on the basic rules. It’s almost like an NFL survivor pool in that you must choose a single golfer every week, but once you pick them, they are ineligible for the rest of the season. The goal is to accumulate the most money during the year, so we are after tournament winners while hoping to avoid the missed cuts that net us $0 for the week.
For One and Done purposes our goal remains the same, which is to bank as much money as possible while not going too aggressively early in the season. We have $8.4 million in the purse for this week’s tournament, so finding a potential winner will go a long way toward being in contention as the season rolls on.

PGA American Express One and Done Picks Expert Analysis & Picks
Chris Kirk
It’s only a few weeks into the season, but somehow, Chris Kirk seems to be making headlines every week. He burst onto the 2024 scene with a win at the Sentry and followed that up last week with a respectable 18th-place finish. Now the 18th isn’t going to wow people at first glance, but looking at the approach numbers, we quickly see a guy who is in form with his ball striking. With us headed to an event where golfers should have a ton of birdie chances, Kirk immediately becomes an interesting One and Done selection.
All that is not to say Kirk will have zero value later in the season, but his stock is sky-high right now because of his early season success. To me, it’s a great time to get more exposure to him before some potential regression occurs, and I’ll call for Kirk to make it three straight quality starts to begin his 2024 campaign.
Eric Cole
Making a cut on the PGA Tour is never easy, regardless of whether it’s a traditional 36-hole cut, or, in this case, a 54-hole format.
But don’t tell that to Eric Cole, who is making it look easy with 17 straight weekend appearances, the latest being last week’s 13th-place finish at the Sony. Cole finished 14th to begin the year at the Sentry and is a walking top 20, which means money in the bank for One and Done.
Cole is quickly rising on the list of players who are looking for that elusive win. He has numerous top-five showings over the last year, including a handful during 2023’s swing season.
The irons lead the way for Kirk, which will translate across all three of these courses, so it’s just a matter of rolling in some putts. Given how consistent he has been, I see no issue with taking one of the most likely players to return some money to your One and Done bank this week.
Ben Rasa’s PGA One and Done Pick: Tom Kim
I’m going with Tom Kim this week in One and Done. He is someone with a ton of talent and upside, but, honestly, I don’t mind not having him available for the rest of the season.
Kim is still just 21, but with a handful of PGA tour victories already on his resume, it’s clear he can play. Kim actually won late in 2023 at the Shriners Children’s Open, and he then got in some reps during the Hawaii stretch at the Sentry.
His ball-striking is usually on point, and, like a lot of players, it’s all about if and when his putter will show up. Given that he’s played this unique event twice already, including a sixth-place finish last year, I think this is a great spot to deploy Kim in One and Done. He’ll hopefully bank us a nice payday early in the season.
